How I Declutter My Home For The New Year!

table-white-home-interior (1)I like to declutter my environment at least 4 times a year. I like to declutter around the changing of the seasons. I will declutter a week before or after the new year, in the spring time, summer time, and in the fall. I believe every season brings new changes and new revelations.

I love reflecting over my life and my goals in each season. I am always listening inwardly to hear if the Holy Spirit wants to reveal important information to me. I also love changing out my fashion style with what I call, “my colors for the season.” I will write another blog post about how I invested in a fashion and style coach, “The Brown Closet” but for now, click the link to pay The Brown Closet a visit.

There is something about the New Year that makes me want to hit the reset button and start all over again. I love having systems in place in my home and decluttering is one of the systems I use to keep things organized. It always make me feel like I have a new start.pexels-photo-110215This year thou, I feel different. I don’t know how to explain it but it feels like a major shift has taken place in my heart. My New Year’s theme is a “New Year, a New You.” A part of that is really being intentional about changing some bad habits I had in 2017. Like being on time to scheduled appointments. I have 5 people that I am responsible for. I have to make sure they have what they need before we walk out of the door and I did not include myself in that number. I used this as an excuse to not be on time to places. But this year, I am going to intentionally put a plan in place to help me get to places on time. I will give myself lots of grace if things comes up that are out of my control.

This year I am decluttering my schedule, my time and my focus so that I will have breakthrough success. When I do my seasonal decluttering, I have items on my list that can never take a back seat to be decluttered, because if these things are not monitored, they can get out of control. These items are papers, clothes, shoes, toys and homeschool materials. Some people never get rid of things in their environment and it just accumulates.

I have 4 children all under the age of 12, it is challenging to keep things organized. My household includes 6 people. That is six people with things, stuff and items living in one environment. Imagine with me for a moment, if I never got rid of things from the time I got married and gave birth to my children, up until date, that would be 17 years of accumulation in a 1240 square foot of living space. The results would be stifling!books-1617327_1920I use to have 3 bookshelves but now I have just one. I got rid of the other ones because I want to live a more simpler and intentional lifestyle. The less you have in your environment, the less you have to clean and maintain the upkeep of it all. The less you have in your environment, the bigger your space feels.

I can only read one book at a time. I realize when I am done reading a book, I rarely go back to read it again. If I want a book, I can just check it out at my local library. The same goes for my children.

Unless you have someone that comes in and clean your home, what I found out is that, moms are always trying to stay on top of the cleaning, laundry, cooking, schedules and trying to keep things orderly. A lot of times we moms get frustrated and overwhelmed because we are trying to maintain the upkeep of the things we are constantly bringing in our homes for our families. It is exhausting to keep cleaning up the same old things you’ve just cleaned up 2 hours ago.

When I get disorganized, the things I instantly want to tackle are the dishes, paper/trash, clothes, shoes, toys, laundry and homeschool materials. I have to constantly stay on top of those items.blue-glass-flower-decoration (1)When I tackle my seasonal decluttering, I make sure to get every single detail. I clean out every cabinet, every closet, I get rid of any clothes that have stains, rips and are too small. I get rid of furniture that is broken and is not working for the space. I get rid of any appliances that are broken and dishes that are chipped. I get rid of shoes that are to little and worn out. I declutter homeschool material and papers, I clean out every drawer, I declutter linen, I get rid of toys that my children have lost interest in and are broken. I declutter medicine, I declutter food that is in the cabinets and refrigerator that have expired. I declutter books and I wipe down and clean everything; walls, doors, ceiling fans, light fixtures, carpet, furniture and floors.

I use to have a beautiful glass coffee and end table, glass vases, and the pretty decorative balls that sit on the coffee table but when I started having kids it was too much work to monitor it all and keep the glass mark free. I had to redefine my style of decor because the season had changed in my life. I remember trying to hold on to those glass tables because thy were one of a kind and we paid a lot of money for them, but my husband was adamant about letting them go after one of my children bumped their face on the glass. Those items were not working for us anymore.

Sometimes we try to hold on to seasons that have come and is now gone and God wants to do something new with our lives. If we are too attached to things and if our identity is wrapped up in them, we can become stuck in a formal season.

I would love to hear about ways you keep your life decluttered. Leave a comment. Follow me on social media by clicking the links down below. To follow me on Instagram click here.

Getting Back to the Heart of Things!

bench-1245994_1920

This blog post is about my journey back to being grateful and taking control of my life. I was feeling like I needed to bring more balance and order in my life.

I am a Christian, wife, mother and I took on the task of being responsible for my kids education. Yes, I also homeschool my kids.

I am a woman who have dreams and a purpose and I started to pursue them as well. I am a self published Christian author. I’ve written 3 books,“Dare To Dream Big”, “25 Attitude “You Must Have for a Breakthrough” and “Extraordinary Single Lady”.

I am a certified Christian life coach, speaker and blogger. I have a lot on my plate, but I love it. I love that I have found out what God created me to do and that is to partner with him to see his daughters made whole in every area of their lives. But I have an evening greater calling, and that is to be a wife to Overere and a mom to Erica, Faith, Victoria, Blessing and Wisdom. I am also called to be Destine’s GeeGee. I am not ready to be called a grandmother yet, so I told my granddaughter to call me GeeGee.

In life, there will be a lot of things pulling for your time and attention but you have to know what is the most important in your life. For me, God is most important, then myself and then my family in that order and then everything else comes after that.

Myself after God because I am no good to anyone if I do not take care of myself first. I need to always be giving back to me, so I can give back to others that have been entrusted to me.

Some of my favorite me times and things I enjoy giving back to myself are, Lipton Green tea with honey or guava, reading and learning, spa treatment in the bath tub, spending fun quality time with my husband like going out to dinner and catching a great movie afterwards, traveling, praying and meditating, journaling, 30 minutes walks which I need to get back to, getting my hair done when its time, polishing my nails and toes, buying something for myself, having sweet fellowship and feeding my spirit man at Church and having social time with the ladies.

As women we want to be a part of everything and attend everyones gathering. But you have to decide what is truly important for you.

You must develop a relationship with the Holy Spirit so He can prompt you when you are taking on too many things in your life or when you are suppose to do something different than what you or other people think you are suppose to be doing.

diary-1149992_1280.jpg

Everyone has an agenda, but it is God’s agenda that should reign supreme in your life. But let me reveal this revelation. God has given us the ability to make wise decisions for ourselves. God requires us to follow after Jesus example on how we should conduct our lives. Jesus is the standard for us to pattern our life after, it is the blue print on how we are suppose to conduct ourselves with our family, friends, on our jobs and in the world. That is  one of the requirements to live a Christ centered life.

He has given you the free will to choose how you want your life to be. He will present things before you, but ultimately you must decide on what job to take, who to marry, where you want to live, which gifting and talents you want to develop, what type of car you want to drive, what kinds of attributes you want to display in the world, what house you want to live in and how you want to spend your days on earth.

The Bible is the road map for the best possible outcome to based your decisions on. The Bible is the true word of God, it is not to be taken lightly. It is prophecy in a book. It is God’s word to man, but God gave you free will, He left it up to you to do the choosing. The Holy Spirit is God’s helper, He will illuminate to you which way you should go if you develop a intimate trusting relationship with him. The Holy Spirit will speak to your heart and prompt you when it is something you should do or not be doing at this time if your life. Most Christians have not develop that relationship with the Holy Spirit. If you are born again, I would recommend you read this book by Benny Hinn called “Good Morning Holy Spirit” if you want to be born again pray this prayer.

Ladies, I know we want to have our cake and eat it too, but there is a price that comes with that. It takes careful thought and planning and great organization skills of which I am learning to develop everyday. I know everything is not going to be perfect, but perfect to me is having a peace of mind and living true within my heart, and being the change that I want to see and that starts with me.

All I was hearing in my spirit was get your house in order and that could mean different things for different people because we are all called to something different in life. Your struggle my be totally different from my struggles.

I was presented with an offer, that I might add, I asked God for, but after the offer was presented to me, all I heard was get your house order and organize in every are of your life. I heard 30 days.

I began working on it right way. The 1st thing I did, was write out a plan on how I was going to tackle all of my task that was set before. Before I can take on another obligation, I must do this 1st. Get my house in order.

dresses-53319_1280

I wrote a plan for decluttering every area in my home and this was not a surface plan. It was very detailed. I was not going to leave not one stone unturned. Sometimes we tackle the surface clutter that we see and neglect the clutter we can not see.

All of the hidden clutter I had to tackle was underneath the cabinets, inside the closets, inside the drawers, I no longer have a junk drawer because I assigned everything a place. Everything I had no use for, I donated it or I threw it away.

I tackled every room in my house and as I was cleaning and decluttering, I was making a list of all the things that needed fixed or mending.

I heard in my spirit, get a system for how you would keep it clean, and  do it the same way every time. I created me a system for every room and I created me an inventory list after every system of things that needed to be purchased for the upkeep of that particular room.

Sometimes our breakthroughs are attached to the things we are willing to give up. Sometimes our prosperity is attached to the things we are willing to implement and do. Sometimes clutter is an indicator of the things we are still holding on to, and sometimes God is just trying to make sure we lay a proper foundation before we build our house so it is not built upon a faulty foundation.

Today it has been a week since my purging and decluttering and I have 2 more rooms to tackle. I will complete them today. The laundry room and the basement.

While I was cleaning, I was thanking God for all of the blessings that are in my life. As I cleaned and decluttered each room, I realize how abundantly blessed I am.

I have clean running water, a warm bed to lay my head down on, heat on those cold nights, cover to keep warm, food in the refrigerator, an amazing husband that affords me the luxury of being a stay at home mom to our children, a home that is paid off, cars that are paid off and a whole host of other blessings.

As I have been extremely grateful, I have being noticing things showing up in my life, big blessing that reminds me of what God said in Matthew 6:25-34 KJV:

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

yellow-845783_1920.jpg

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:” “And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”

“Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?” “(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

I believe I am doing what I am suppose to be doing right now, It feels so in alignment. All I know is God is up to something good and I am excited to see what that is and I will keep you posted. But until then, what is God putting on your heart in this season of your life. Please do not say I don’t know. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you and began implementing it right away. I will talk about this some more in my next blog post, so subscribe to Breakthrough Blog 4 Women so you can be the first to receive it.
